Seaside is an unincorporated master-planned community located in a colorful, friendly neighborhood south of Destin, Florida. The ambiance made me feel calm and peaceful. The idea behind Seaside came from founder Robert S. Davis. His grandfather bought 80 acres of land along the shore of Northwest Florida as a summer retreat for his family. In 1978, Davis inherited the land and wanted to create an old-fashioned beach town, with traditional wood-framed cottages. Seaside is a beautiful town where people get around by bike or just walk. The breathtaking beauty of the village of Seaside is enough but add the sugar-white sand and the gorgeous sunsets, and you have a quaint, paradise beach. Seaside was used as the filming site for The Truman Show’s Utopian Seahaven.
In typical Seaside fashion, the food trucks in the heart of the community aren’t food trucks at all, but permanently stationed Airstream trailers. This so-called Airstream Row offers some of the best beach food around. The airstream restaurants are Barefoot BBQ, Frost Bites, The Melt Down on 30A, Raw & Juicy, and Wild Bill’s Beach Dogs. Yummy, good food in a fun setting right across from the beach.
