Finding Paradise in San Blas, Panama

Mike told me that he once visited San Blas as a child but didn't really remember much so we decided to plan a trip to see what San Blas was all about. We found paradise!

The San Blas islands are a group of islands located in the Northwest of Panama overlooking the Caribbean Sea. There are 378 islands within the archipelago and the majority of the 378 islands have no inhabitants, the gentle native people known as the Kuna’s can be found on the larger inhabited Islands. The San Blas Islands are not yet discovered by the massive tourism industry and are fully controlled by the native Kuna’s. The Kuna’s protect their lands against massive tourism and keep them healthy and beautiful. This makes the San Blas Islands of Panama unique because the nature and culture are untouched.

Each of the large islands have hammocks, volleyball, water sports, etc. for the guests and a dining hall that the native serve fresh seafood daily. Mike surprised me by hiring the natives to catch fresh lobster and king crab for us. They cooked it for us for dinner and it was a lovely surprise and super delicious.

We slept in eco-friendly accommodations made from natural materials which they found on the Islands and in the jungle. We were able to try both, sleeping in a tent and a thatched roof, log house. We preferred the tents because there was more breeze coming through.

We had a wonderful, relaxing trip and got to experience paradise lost.
