The Outer Banks is the barrier islands off the coast of North Carolina and separates the Atlantic Ocean from the mainland. Roanoke Island was the site of England’s first settlement in the New World, an endeavor sponsored by Sir Walter Raleigh.
The Outer Banks is very windy so this was the best place to take flight. Wright Brothers National Memorial, located in Kill Devil Hills, commemorates the first successful, sustained, powered flights in a heavier-than-air machine.
The beautiful, multi-colored houses just put us in vacation mode as soon as we arrived to The Outer Banks
