Bethany Beach is a small, beautiful beach on the coast of Delaware. This beach is smaller and more serene than some nearby beach resorts like Atlantic City and Ocean City. Bethany Beach was founded by members of the Disciples of Christ Church of Washington DC and Pennsylvania. The idea was to find a land for a permanent yearly seaside assembly for the Christian churches of the country. Bethany was named by H.L. Atkinson who won a nationwide contest and was given a lot on the beach as his prize. Bethany reflects the character of the early settlers who were looking for "a haven of rest for quiet people." by embracing its family-friendly peacefulness and quiet beauty.
