Some History:
Nikola Tesla and George Westinghouse built the first hydro-electric power plant in 1895 in Niagara Falls and started the electrification of the world.
Nikola Tesla's Speech at Niagara Falls Opening Ceremony
"We have many a monument of past ages; we have the palaces and pyramids, the temples of the Greek and the cathedrals of Christendom. In them is exemplified the power of men, the greatness of nations, the love of art and religious devotion. But the monument at Niagara has something of its own, more in accord with our present thoughts and tendencies. It is a monument worthy of our scientific age, a true monument of enlightenment and of peace. It signifies the subjugation of natural forces to the service of man, the discontinuance of barbarous methods, the relieving of millions from want and suffering"
- Nikola Tesla's speech at the opening ceremony of the hydroelectric power station, January 12, 1897.
The Falls:
Horseshoe Falls is the largest waterfall that form Niagara Falls on the Niagara River along the Canada-US Border. Approximately 90% of the Niagara River flows over Horseshoe Falls. The remaining 10% flows over American Falls and Bridal Veil falls.
The American Falls is the second largest of the waterfalls that make up Niagara Falls. The American Falls is entirely within the United States. The falls receive approximately 10% of the flow from Niagara River, with most of the rest going over Horseshoe Falls.
The Bridal Veil Falls is the smallest of the three waterfalls that make up Niagara Falls. It is located on the American side in New York State. The Cave of the Winds attraction allows visitors to walk up to the base of Bridal Veil Falls. The Bridal Veil Falls faces to the northwest and has a crest 56 feet
We chose to do the Viator Deluxe Tour:
I got the full experience from the American and Canadian sides of the border on the deluxe, 6-hour guided tour of everything Niagara Falls had to offer. I sailed on the thrilling Maid of the Mist boat cruise, visited the exciting Cave of the Winds walk and we road the elevator to the top of the Skylon Tower. It was a wonderful way to learn about Niagara Falls.
