Hurricane Katrina Marker in Biloxi, Mississippi

I found this great restaurant on the water in Biloxi, MS. I was in town with my family and had dinner with my cousins at Snapper's Seafood Restaurant. The food was delicious and having dinner right on the Gulf of Mexico was really nice. However the big deal was seeing how high the water got in Biloxi during Hurricane Katrina.

I lived in Mobile, Alabama during Katrina and there was a lot of damage. I was a Property Manager and met so many people that lost their home in the storm. Biloxi was nearly wiped off the map, every south of Interstate 10 was missing. I remember seeing the 100 plus year old Antibellum homes each time I was in Biloxi. They had been there through hundreds of hurricanes. Katrina claimed them on August 23, 2005. It was so sad to drive along the streets of Biloxi, after the storm, and see everything, Casino barges included, gone. Everything from my memory was just gone. I just don't know how the Biloxians found the strength to go one, but they did.

It was nice to see that Snapper's made it throught the Category 5 hurricane. I got to see how high the water level was during Hurricane Katrina. It was 24 feet above sea level. I didn't realize how high that was until I saw it painted on the 2nd floor at Snapper's. Unimaginable! I never grasped the enormity of the water that nearly wiped Biloxi and New Orleans off the map until I saw this. I knew so many people that were displaced and I'm just so glad they made it through the storm.
